Born in 1959, in Nyazura, Zimbabwe. Taurai is a one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent sculptors specializing inanimalstone sculptures. He grew up on a farm surrounded by wildlife, and that has beenthe greatest inspiration for his work.From 1982 to 1985 he served as an apprenticein sculpture under renowned artist, Lameck Zano. He also worked for ChapunguSculpture Park, for a few years where he was assisted in the marketing of hissculptures. Taurai currently sculpts at the Chitungwisa Art Centre.In 1999, he wasone of a handful of artists invited to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, where theQueen Elizabeth IIwas visiting during a statevisit to Zimbabwe.In May 2016, former Namibian President Dr Sam Nujoma became the thirdpresident to receive Taurai’s buffalo into their private collections. The others being, the President of Zimbabwe, RGMugabe and a formerPresident of Senegal.Tauraiwon first prize in his category at the Brock Awards, in Zimbabwe, in 2017.
