Biriyo was born in Mozambique and came to Zimbabwe in 1960.After settling for farm work at Tengenenge, Biriyo began sculpting in 1965.Having no formal training nor education, Biriyo relied on nature to provide those lessons. Two of his children,Trymore Fernando and Kelvin Fernando are third generation artists. Fernando enjoys working with Serpentine Spring Stone, Opal and Cobalt.He specializes in animals and human forms. He has exhibited in many countries including Germany, Netherlands and the United States of America
